A cute encounter out of the ordinary

One day I saw this tiny shrew baby crossing my path. It was really young and I guess therefore it did not know any fear or was simply too scared to run away. Whatever the reason it remained motionless in front of me and let me took several photos even from very close distance. Its size was about 2 inches (5cm). Shrews (Spitzmäuse, Scoricidae) look like mice but actually are closer related to hedgehog and mole. Shrews are the smallest carnivorous mammals on earth. They have predator-like teeth and eat worms, insects and spiders. Because of its tiny body size a shrew has an enormous metabolism rate and therefore has to eat permanently, otherwise it is going to die within a few hours. A world ruled by hunger - what imagination!
