Coastal flora
The dunes are covered with the slender, hard-leaved marram grass (Strandhafer, Ammocalamagrostis baltica) that prevents the dunes from being eroded by wind and water to a certain degree.
Sea buckthorn (Sanddorn, Hippophae rhamnoides) is a shrub that needs sandy and dry soil to grow - so it is well adapted to coastal conditions and develops bright orange berries in fall that are extremely rich in vitamin C. The berries are used for the production of delicious jelly, tea or fruit juice.
